Resumo: Excessive alcohol consumption is associated with a number of liver manifestations and significantly affects human health worldwide. Alcoholic liver disease (ALD) represents a spectrum of liver damage resulting from chronic alcohol consumption, ranging from fatty liver to more advanced forms, including alcoholic hepatitis, cirrhosis and chronic liver failure. The objective was to write the epidemiology of cases of hospitalizations and deaths from Alcoholic Liver Disease in the state of Sergipe from 2010 to 2020, according to health regions, gender and age group. A cross-sectional, descriptive and retrospective epidemiological study was carried out. The unit of analysis in this study was the DHA morbidity and mortality data (ICD10-K70) from January 2010 to December 2020, in the state of Sergipe, obtained through DATASUS. During this period, 1060 hospitalizations were reported and 320 of these cases died as a result of ALD in the state of Sergipe. The incidence of hospitalizations and deaths was higher in men, representing 86.32% and 85.63%, respectively. Regarding age group, the risk of hospitalization and death due to alcoholic liver disease was higher in the 50-59 age group. The health region of Sergipe, with the highest incidence of both hospitalizations (26.98%) and deaths (26.56%) due to ALD, was the region of Aracaju. Thus, since ALD is a condition associated with several complications, being underdiagnosed or diagnosed in advanced stages with irreversible damage to the liver, it is mandatory to create public policies aimed at preventing the consumption of alcoholic beverages, as the disease is totally preventable.
