Resumo: This research aims to analyze how the current commercial policy of the American government reflects an economic strategy in the face of the growth of Chinese power in the International System. Following his 2016 election victory, the Donald Trump administration has used coercive geoeconomic instruments to ensure the prevalence of its national interests. The Trade War against China demonstrates how economic power has become an important imperative in 21st century power struggles. Therefore, after establishing an aggressive tariff policy, Trump has used American protagonism and its privileges as a way to harm his opponent. This change in the US foreign economic policy has been challenging the role of the country as supporters of international trade, in a context that shows a repositioning of the USA in the face of the current systemic dynamics.

Após a vitória presidencial na eleição de 2016, o governo de Donald Trump tem se utilizado de instrumentos geoeconômicos coercitivos para garantir a prevalência de seus interesses nacionais. Desse modo, a Guerra Comercial contra a China demonstra a forma como o poder econômico se tornou um imperativo importante nas disputas de poder do século XXI. Assim, ao instaurar uma política tarifária agressiva, Trump tem se utilizado do protagonismo e dos privilégios estadunidenses como forma de prejudicar seu adversário.
