The theme of this research is “Press and Cinema: Repercussions of the 1970 Football World Cup” aiming to understand how football can be used for political purposes. In this case, the research was based on the 1970 World Cup and how the dictatorial government used the good performance of the Brazilian team to hide the crimes they were committing. To achieve the proposed objectives, bibliographical references, sources, collections and films were researched. Finally, it is considered that the 1970 World Cup was the “Bread and Circus” cup for Brazil, since, as football was the sport of the masses, the dictatorial government was the enchanter of the masses.
