Resumo: | The present work describes in detail the structural and luminescent properties of the compounds Gd3Al5O12 and (Y3-xGdx)Al5O12 doped with europium, which were synthesized by the modified sol gel method. To study the samples of Gd3Al5O12, the influence of different chelating agents (glucose, lactose and maltodextrin) on the formation of the phase under analysis was investigated, as well as on the emission of the dopant Eu3+. Structural characterization with XRD and Reitveld refinement showed that the composition of the crystal structure is strongly influenced by chelating agents and maltodextrin was the most suitable for obtaining the phase, both for the pure compound and for the doped one. The photoluminescence results complemented the structural data. Through the analysis of the excitation spectra, the existence of two symmetry sites for Eu3+ was verified, due to the presence of the GAP secondary phase. The emission spectra indicated typical emission lines for Eu3+ and for excitation at 230 nm (CTB: Eu1-GAG) and 395 nm (7F0->5L6) presenting the emission profile of the garnet phase. The XEOL emission results showed that at this excitation energy the spectra also adopt the characteristic Eu3+ emission in the GAG phase. Para o estudo das amostras do Gd3Al5O12 foi investigado a influência dos diferentes agentes quelantes (glicose, lactose e maltodextrina) na formação da fase em análise, bem como na emissão do dopante Eu3+. A caracterização estrutural com DRX e refinamento Reitveld mostrou que a composição da estrutura cristalina é fortemente influenciada pelos agentes quelantes e a maltodextrina foi o mais adequado para obtenção da fase, tanto para o composto puro como também para o dopado. Os resultados de fotoluminescência complementaram os dados estruturais. Através da análise dos espectros de excitação foi constatado a existência de dois sítios de simetria para o Eu3+, devido a presença da fase secundária GAP. Os espectros de emissão indicaram linhas de emissão típicas do Eu3+ e para a excitação de 230 nm (CTB:Eu1-GAG) e 395 nm (7F0->5L6) apresentando o perfil de emissão da fase garnet. Os resultados de emissão por XEOL mostraram que nesta energia de excitação os espectros também adotam a emissão característica do Eu3+ na fase GAG. No estudo das amostras do (Y3–xGdx)Al5O12 dopado com Eu3+ foram determinadas as mudanças estruturais e nas propriedades luminescentes em função da variação do conteúdo de Gd3+ no composto. As amostras foram preparadas pela rota sol-gel, utilizando álcool polivinílico (PVA) como agente complexante. Os fósforos preparados foram caracterizados por difração de raios X (DRX) e o refinamento de Rietveld foi empregado para quantificar as fases obtidas. Foi constatado que a maior concentração de Gd provocou o surgimento da fase secundária GAP. Porém, para a composição Y1Gd2Al5O12 foi obtida a fase GAG estável. Os efeitos da concentração de Gd nas propriedades luminescentes sob excitação VUV e UV também foram estudados, utilizando a radiação síncrotron como fonte de luz.
