This completion of course work in Library Science and Documentation course, is the result of applied, descriptive and documentary research. With the objectives of listing, explaining, and registering the representations of social memory, through strategies of analysis of information from the documents contained in the school file “Ginásio Industrial Dr. Carvalho Neto”, integrated with the information unit of the “Centro de Excelência Dr. Milton Dortas”. Therefore, the analysis was based on the concepts inherent to the school archive and social memory. In addition to the Minutes Book of the Exams for Admission to the Middle School Course, 350 school records of former students were courted to 1963 to 1977. The empirical sample was defined based on the situation in which the file was found, that is, it occurred in the course of the research in it. The collected data were inserted into a table produced using the software Excel from Microsoft Windows® and these were approached in a qualitative and quantitative way. We discuss the results based on facts, events and events related to school routine. Finally, we conclude that based on the information from school archival documents, after being analyzed, it is possible to reconstruct social memory through representations and these become elements of identity and belonging. This possibility is of vital importance, as the documentary collection evolves into an information unit, a source of research for various areas of knowledge, and as a memory device, to strengthen the identity of the assisted community and enhance the effects of education at its basic and fundamental levels.
