Resumo: The springs are sources that gushing out in the land surface, essential for the formation of rivers. They are characterized as natural environments of environmental complexity still poorly understood. However, is noted that source of important rivers are degraded conditions and impacted by human actions. Lagarto is a city in the state of Sergipe that adds the first sources of the watershed of Piauitinga river, and most of which are in rural areas. In this context, the research presented in this study selected the sources 01, 03, 05, 07, 08, 09, 12, 17, 19 and a new point, registered as source 29, with the aim of assess water quality, as well as to establish physicochemical characterization of these sources. Water samples has been collected in the superficial layer of water body, in October 2009, February, April and August 2010, then taken to the laboratory for analysis of parameters Ammonia NH4 + mg.L-1, Conductivity (μS. cm-1), Color (mg Pt.L-1), Hardness (mg L-1CaCO3), Nitrate NO3 -N (mg.L-1), Nitrite NO2- -N (mg L-1), pH, Total dissolved solids, TDS (mg L-1) and Turbidity (UNT). Analyzing the results, it was found pH lower than 6.0, specifying mild acidic, this fact is related to the soils of the region, not being identified pollutant sources that caused this acidity. The highest values of turbidity and color occurred during the rainy season, the results indicated that the degradation of riparian vegetation and the erosion are responsible for the increase of particles in the water bodies assessed. For the electrical conductivity, the highest values were obtained in dry season from the loss of water in the air, resulting in an increase salt concentration in these reservoirs, but these values did not exceed the normal range. For total dissolved solids, half of the sources showed the highest values during the rainy season and the other part in the dry season. The nitrogenous, nitrates, nitrites and ammonia, as nutrients characterized at all points were within the limit established by CONAMA Resolution 357/2005. The concentrations of hardness are within the requirements for freshwater, class 2. From this context, we can see that the spring waters showed the interrelation of natural compounds such as land use and occupation in this basin (such as, for example, for grazing and washing clothes); also, we can mention the degradation of riparian vegetation caused by various factors. All these factors mentioned above affect the normality of certain parameters. However, according to the final values obtained, these waters can be classified in class 2.

However, according to the final values obtained, these waters can be classified in class 2.Sendo as nascentes fontes que jorram água na superfície terrestre, essenciais para a formação dos rios, caracterizadas como ambientes singulares de complexidade ambiental ainda pouco interpretada.
