Territorialidade, saúde e meio ambiente : conexões, saberes e práticas em comunidades quilombolas de Sergipe

Resumo: The quilombola communities do not solely exist as spatial groupings of former fugitive enslaved people, but have actually constituted themselves over the course of time as territories of resistance and preservation of the values, knowledge, and practices of afro-brazilian culture. In addition to a cosmovision that is inclusive, holistic, and integral, the emphasis on providing care for people and for the natural environment were crucial determining factors for the physical and cultural survival of the afro descendent populations. Their continued resistance to the slavocratic social system and to racism, a structuring element in brazilian society that persists until today, is underwritten by the communities’ core values. As soon as we begin to discuss health and quilombola territories, the two appear to be intimately tied. We see that the construction of the territory produces identities and that identities also produce territories, this process being a product of collective and reciprocal actions of social subjects. The ecosystemic focus on human health presents an opportunity to construct a theory-practice in navigating the relationships between health and the environment including, among other factors, an examination of the lifestyles of specific population groups. The objective of this particular study is to analyze how traditional wisdom and practices in quilombola health and healing construct territorialities that contribute to environmental conservation in their communities. Based on the Ethnographic method, with a qualitative approach and data analysis from Symbolic Interactionism, this study realized a field study at the quilombola communities Mocambo, Porto da Folho, and in Sítio Alto, in Simão Dias, both in Sergipe. Participant observation, interviews, iconographic registries, and a field study journal were all used as techniques for data collection. Among the wisdoms and practices observed articulating both health and the environment, we paid special attention to the use of medicinal plants, practices of prayers and blessings, the conservation of creole seeds (“sementes crioulas”), and the circular dances of samba de côco and danza de roda. We identify territoriality of resistance, territoriality of care, and territoriality of hope as common threads that link the two communities’ knowledge systems and practices relating to health and the environment. We conclude that the focus on the environment when examining the health of the quilombola communities illustrates a vital and integrative dynamic that intimately links health with the natural environment. The strategies, values, and practices that we found work to integrate the territory, health, and environment in the communities that we observed. As such, it is important to recognize and valorize the diversity of the conceptions and knowledge systems that promote unity and respect between human relations and the natural environment.________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

A partir de una cosmovisión incluyente, holística, e integral, el cuidado de las personas y el medioambiente fueron determinantes para la sobrevivencia física y cultural de las poblaciones afrodescendiente que enfrentaban el sistema esclavocrata y el racismo, un estructurante de la sociedad brasileña que persiste hasta los días actuales. Cuando comenzamos a hablar sobre la salud en relación a los territórios quilombolas, parece que los dos son íntimamente imbricados. Vemos que la construcción del territorio produce identidades, y que las identidades también producen territorios, procesos que es son productos de acciones colectivas y recíprocas entre sujetos sociales. El enfoque ecosistémico en este estudio, especialmente cuando hablando de la salud humana, presenta una posibilidad de construir una teórico-práctica cuando navegando las relaciones entre la salud y el medioambiente utilizando, entre otros factores, las examinaciones de los estilos de vida de grupos poblacionales específicos. El objetivo de este estudio es analizar el proceso de cómo los saberes y las prácticas tradicionales de cura y cuidado de salud construyen territorialidades que contribuyen a la conservación ambiental en las comunidades quilombolas. Usando el método del Interaccionismo Simbólico, un foco cualitativo y técnicas de la Etnografía, una investigación de campo fue realizada en las comunidades quilombolas Mocambo en Porto da Folha y en Sítio Alto en Simão Dias, los dos en Sergipe, Brasil. Técnicas incluyendo la observación participante, entrevistas, registros iconográficos y un diario de campo fueron usadas para la colección de los dados. Entre estos saberes y prácticas que articulan la salud y el medioambiente, pusimos atención especial al uso de las plantas medicinales, prácticas de reza y benzedura, la conservación de semillas criollas y las danza circulares de samba de côco y danza de roda. Identificamos la territorialidad de la resistencia, la territorialidad del cuidado y la territorialidad de la esperanza como trazos comunes a las dos comunidades en conección con los saberes y prácticas que son articulados en la salud y el medioambiente. Se concluye que los principios del enfoque ecosistémico en la salud están presentes en las comunidades quilombolas en una dinámica vital, integradora y compleja, la cual ha contribuido a la conservación ambiental y cultural de estas comunidades. Las estrategias, valores y prácticas encontradas son las que integran el territorio, la salud y el medioambiente que vivenciamos en la actualidad. Por eso, se hace necesario reconocer y valorizar la diversidad de las concepciones y a la jerarquización de los saberes, promoviendo la unión y respetando las diferencias en una nueva orden donde el cuidado es el guía principal entre las relaciones humanas y con el medio ambiente.As comunidades quilombolas, muito mais que espaços de agrupamento de escravizados fugitivos, se constituíram, ao longo do tempo, como territórios de resistência e preservação dos valores, saberes e práticas da cultura afro-brasileira. A partir de uma cosmovisão includente, holística e integral, o cuidado com as pessoas e o meio ambiente foi determinante para a sobrevivência física e cultural das populações afrodescendentes frente ao sistema escravocrata, e ao racismo, estruturante da sociedade brasileira, e persistente até os dias atuais. Quando pretendemos discutir territórios quilombolas e saúde aparecem, intimamente imbricados, a percepção que a construção do território produz identidades e as identidades produzem territórios, sendo este processo produto de ações coletivas e recíprocas de sujeitos sociais. A abordagem ecossistêmica em saúde humana apresenta-se como possibilidade de construção teórico-prática das relações saúde e ambiente a partir, entre outros fatores, do estilo de vida de grupos populacionais específicos. Esse estudo tem o objetivo de analisar como os saberes e práticas tradicionais de cuidado em saúde constroem territorialidades que contribuem para conservação ambiental em comunidades quilombolas. Com base no método Etnográfico, abordagem qualitativa e análise de dados a partir do Interacionismo Simbólico, foi realizada uma pesquisa de campo nas comunidades quilombolas Mocambo em Porto da Folha e Sítio Alto em Simão Dias. Entre os saberes e práticas que articulam saúde e meio ambiente, destacamos a utilização de plantas medicinais, as práticas de reza e benzedura, a conservação de sementes crioulas e as danças circulares samba de coco e dança de roda. Identificamos a territorialidade da resistência, a territorialidade do cuidado e a territorialidade da esperança como traços comuns às duas comunidades na conexão de saberes e práticas que articulam saúde e ambiente. Conclui-se que os princípios da abordagem ecossistêmica em saúde estão presentes nas comunidades quilombolas numa dinâmica vital integradora e complexa das relações saúde e ambiente, a qual tem contribuído para conservação ambiental e cultural dessas comunidades. As estratégias, valores e práticas encontradas que integram território, saúde e meio ambiente, apontam caminhos para a superação de problemas sanitários e ambientais que vivenciamos na atualidade.
