Resumo: | The use of renewable energy sources (biofuels) is one way to help reduce dependence on fossil fuels and reducing greenhouse. Among the various renewable energy sources, one that has stood out is ethanol obtained from sugarcane, which is one of the only sources of fuel able to meet the growing global demand for renewable energy low cost and low power pollution. Therefore, a technology survey was conducted based on search patents related to ethanol. A search of patents was extracted in Espacenet base associating keywords ethanol AND sugarcane fields title and abstract, having returned 57 documents. There was existence of deposits from 1986 to 2014, noting that the years 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2014 had the highest number of deposits, with respectively five, five, six, five, six and eight. Regarding the country that deposited about this technology, it is clear that China was the country that had a larger number of patent applications with 21 deposits. Noteworthy is also that of depositors, 43% are companies, 41% are individual inventors and only 16% are universities; as the codes of the International Patent Classification (IPC), it was noted that the more the results of classification was C12P7/06, which is represented by the preparation of organic compounds containing oxygen, ethanol, ie, not to drink. |

Dentre as diversas fontes de energia renováveis, uma que vem se destacando, é o etanol obtido da cana-de-açúcar, que é uma das únicas fontes de combustíveis capazes de atender à crescente demanda mundial por energia renovável de baixo custo e baixo poder de poluição. Diante disso, foi realizada uma prospecção tecnológica baseada na busca de patentes, relacionado ao etanol. A busca das patentes foi extraído na base Espacenet associando as palavras-chaves ethanol AND sugarcane nos campos título e resumo, tendo retornado 57 documentos. Observou-se existência de depósitos a partir do ano de 1986 até 2014, notando-se que os anos de 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013 e 2014 obtiveram os maiores números de depósitos, com respectivamente cinco, cinco, seis, cinco, seis e oito. Em relação ao país que mais depositou sobre essa tecnologia, percebe-se que a China foi o país que teve um maior número de depósitos de patentes com 21 depósitos.
