Resumo: An intense transformation process affected the lives of thousands of men and women still in the second half of the neneteenth century. During this period people felt immersed in a whirlwind characterized by modern life in cities. In Brazil, particularly in Rio de Janeiro, the maximum order and progress has redesigned the old structures of the colonial cities, turning them into modern urban centers century. No Brasil, principalmente no Rio de Janeiro, a máxima de ordem e progresso remodelou as antigas estruturas das cidades coloniais, transformando-as em modernos centros urbanos. Em Aracaju, essas mudanças ocorreram, mas lentamente, nas primeiras décadas do século XX.
