Empreender na Engenharia Civil : o que determina o sucesso ou o insucesso?

Entrepreneurship is a key element to the generation of jobs and income for any country in the world. In Brazil, however, there is an apprehension towards this type of business as a result of uncertainty and lack of education on the subject. Yet, reducing such risk factors is possible through the research and definition of the primordial aspects that will determine the success rate of said ventures. Thus, entrepreneurship becomes more objective, controllable and lucrative. For this present paper, there has been developed a bibliographic review focused on the subjects of entrepreneurial training and education and of the definition of aspects that influence the success rate of business. By means of this research, there has been developed a questionnaire, in the form of close and openended questions, applied throughout civil engineering companies in the State of Sergipe. Once the results were gathered, an examination was conducted over the agreement or disagreement between the ideas supported by the bibliographic review and those acquired through the survey. The gathered data displayed that most of the topics tackled at the early theoretical stage of research converged with the aspects advocated for by those surveyed. Furthermore, these items cover very diverse areas of expertise, such as psychological, financial, administrative, technical and commercial factors. As means of example, many interviewees referred family support, perseverance, good cash flow management, financing terms and knowledge of the market. Therefore, it draws the conclusion that theory is allied with practise and, within the vast spectrum of requirements for success, that the entrepreneur must prepare and qualify themselves in order to increase their odds of success. It is conceivable that, through this paper, aspiring entrepreneurs as well as experienced ones may notice the importance of qualification when it comes to the rate of success in business, by observing and focusing on the more predominant factors. Likewise, by the expertise of the interviewees, it is also noticeable differing aspects in the open-ended answers, such as austerity, conservatism and awareness of their market niche. Finally, this paper clarifies in objective manner the reasons that lead any company towards success, specially in the civil engineering market, demystifying and highlighting the path to be followed for those who aspire to succeed in business.
