Objectives: evaluate the cases of plant poisoning in humans reported to the Center for Information and Toxicological Assistance Sergipe (CIATOX-SE), between the years 2008 and 2012. Methods: It was performed a temporal analysis by evaluating the information from the database of the Center for Information and Toxicological Assistance Sergipe (CIATOX-SE). The variables contained in the notifications were: year of the accident, victim's gender, old age groups, circumstances of the accident, place of occurrence and evolution. Linear time trends were analyzed by univariate linear regression to estimate the annual growth rates of notifications. Results: It was find 90 cases, accounting for 0,4% oh the total cases reported to the toxicological CIATOX in Sergipe. Regarding the circumstances, individual accidents corresponded to most of the records (80%); suicide attempt comes in second with 13% of cases. Most poisonings occurred in children up to 10 years (47%) in urban areas (83%) and mortality was 2%. Conclusion: In Sergipe, most plant poisoning occurs unintentionally and in children up to 10 years. Accidents involving toxic plants are preventable and are therefore necessary preventive and educational measures for reducing these acidentes, as the dissemination of the toxic potential of the plants most common in our environment and actions as not to leave them within reach of children.
