This research, titled The persuasive language of the embroiderers of Tobias Barreto in the teaching of the argumentation, presents a proposal for the study of argumentative techniques with students of Elementary School. The objectives of this study are to lead the students to recognize the argumentative ability of the speakers of the irmothertongue, regardless of the social prestige and to use it effectively, through activities focused on persuasive language. The concepts discussed in the text are based on studies of Argumentation and Rhetoric from the perspective of scholars such as Aristoteles(n/d; edition 2013), Perelman & Tyteca (1958; edition 2005), Fiorin (2015), Plantin (2008) and Ferreira (2010). The activities were developed for students of 6th grade of a public school located in Tobias Barreto / SE. The corpora of the research are the embroiderers’ speeches, collected with the use ofinterviews conducted in an association located in the rural area of the same municipality. The texts were recorded and analyzed in the classroom to observe the argumentative techniques most used by the artisans to defend a point of view. After careful analysis of more than 39minutes of recording, it was possible to verify that these professionals mainly use the arguments of causality, comparison and sacrifice to persuade the interlocutor. After observation of age, schooling and reports, it was also possible to perceive that they do not feel valued by society, so they intend to teach the craft to their descendants as a way of maintaining the culture of their ancestors, but they do not want their daughters to have embroidery as a profession. In the last stage of the work, students participated in a debate about the professions they intend to follow in the future, having the opportunity to practice the argumentative strategies studied during the development of the project.
