Resumo: Objective: To verify the existence of vocal symptoms in teachers of traditional methodology at the beginning and during emergency remote classes in the Covid-19 pandemic. Method: This is a primary, analytical, observational, cross-sectional study with a quantitative, descriptive and comparative approach. Fifty-two professors from a federal public university, belonging to a campus with exclusive use of traditional methodology, participated. The following instruments were applied: anamnesis questionnaire, the Voice Disorder Screening Index -ITDV, the IFV- Vocal Fatigue Index, and Self-perception of the duration of Vocal Symptoms. Results: In ITDV, there was no statistically significant difference for voice disorders. The IFV result was above the cut-off value in factors 1, 3, referring to fatigue and vocal limitation, physical discomfort and voice, respectively. The total VFI also presented values above the cutoff value proposing vocal fatigue in university professors of traditional methodology. In the self-perception of the duration of vocal symptoms, there was a statistically significant difference in the symptoms of hoarseness (p-value 0.01) and feeling of voice stuck in the throat (p-value 0.03). Conclusion: At the beginning and during remote emergency classes due to COVID-19, university professors of traditional methodology presented vocal fatigue with manifestations of vocal limitation, physical discomfort associated with the use of voice. The symptoms of hoarseness and feeling of voice stuck in the throat showed an association with the self-perception of the duration of symptoms for more than one week.
