Deficiency is any loss or abnormality of a structure, and / or psychological, physiological or anatomical function that generates incapacity for the performance of activity, within the standard considered normal for the human being. In the state of Sergipe about 25.09% of the population has some type of disability. People with disabilities are more likely to have caries and periodontal disease. The objective of the present study was to evaluate the oral health status of individuals with disabilities in the Association of Parents and Friends of the Exceptional (APAE) of the municipality of Lagarto, through a questionnaire and intraoral clinical examination through the DMFT, Lost and sealed), Simplified Oral Hygiene Index (IHO-S) and evaluation of dental trauma visible in anterior teeth. According to the data obtained in this research, we observed that the majority of individuals with APAE deficiency in the municipality of Lagarto do not visit the dental surgeon frequently and are not in the habit of flossing during oral hygiene. The most used dental service is offered by the Unified Health System (SUS). The mean DMFT found was 15.08, which is considered to be very high, with no significant differences according to age. The mean IHO-S was 3.4, considered a poor level of oral hygiene, without significant differences according to gender. The prevalence of dental trauma in the APAE was low. The data obtained in the research evidences the need of the incentive, teaching hygiene techniques and the importance of a good maintenance of oral health to parents, caregivers and to the institution itself, besides the need of the implementation of public policies and fomenting studies focused on attention of these individuals.
