Resumo: | The Series, Damnation (2017) is discussed in this article. Bearing in mind the educational and political potential of the referred production, we consider that it is an important mediation for the discussion of fundamental themes of society. The series deals with the role of religion with politics, through the action of a pastor in favor of workers, in the USA, in 1932. Throughout the production, we see the mechanisms used by the ruling class to prevent the organization of workers and the struggle undertaken by them to ensure their survival. The class struggle that permeates the series is explicit at various times. The pastor's radicalism, in understanding the relations of oppression engendered by the Capital and its attempt to organize workers, links him to a political reading of the Bible. His interpretation aims to make the faithful aware of the struggle against their oppressors. The faith professed by the pastor requires a structural change in society. The entire series deals with the aspects highlighted here. However, for this article, we chose to deal only with the first episode. The first episode points out, in general terms, all the problems that unfold throughout the series. |
