Introduction: While the drug has become synonymous of health restoration, they have been prescribed or used indiscriminately. Thus, failures in professional health-patient communication and the disorganized information on prescription support the emergence of doubts in the patient that culminate in miscarriages on prescribed therapy.Objective: To evaluate the level of knowledge of the medical prescription among users of basic health care in Lagarto/SE. Methods: The study was cross-sectional with the support of an instrument which was applied to the users in the waiting room and in the pharmacy of an UBS. The instrument contained questions relevant to the socio-demographic characteristics and the prescribed medicine. Users' level of knowledge about their prescription was rated good, regular, and insufficient. Results: Among the 106 users, 87.74% were female, with an average age of 45.65 years. The level of knowledge about medicines was considered insufficient (42.45%). The users presented a higher level of accuracy for the variables related to indication (91.5%), how should use (66.98%) and the schedule of administration of the medicine (76.41%). The medicine name (46.22%), treatment schedule (45.28%), and adverse reactions (7.54%) had lower levels of matching. Only 21.8% cited the pharmacist as the professional responsible for solving doubts about medicines, and 53.8% did not know about the pharmacist's presence at UBS. Conclusions: The extent of the medical consultations does not allow prioritizing all the information necessary to the correct use of the medicine as well as to resolve the remaining doubts of the user. In order to identify, prevent and resolve PRMs, in addition to emphasizing the therapeutic and economic results for the user and for society, the pharmacist in the pharmacy should be without difficulty identified through the costume or button.
