Resumo: | Introduction: Spastic cerebral palsy (CP) is an encephalopathy that affects the neuromuscular system responsible for movement; it is characterized by increased muscle tone, altered motor nerve activation and slow muscle recruitment. Objective: (a) primary: to develop a protocol to assess semistatic balance in spastic CP, (b) secondary: to analyze the influence of gross motor function on semi-static balance in participants with Spastic Cerebral Palsy (CP) in different body postures. Method: This is a comparative pilot study between two groups: young adults diagnosed with spastic CP level I to V of Gross Motor Function Classification System (GMFC) and healthy, with ages ranging from 13 to 27 years. A stabilometric evaluation was performed through the baropodometer in three postures: sitting, kneeling and standing, with three postural variations of upper limbs: neutral, crossed and horizontal abduction, with only open eyes. Results: The PC group consisted of five participants, one at each GMFCS level, and five participants in the healthy group, with age, sex and weight for each participant in the PC group. The PC group presented lower area variation and mean CoP velocity (body oscillation). However, the GMFCS II participant, in standing posture with MMSS in the neutral position and in horizontal abduction to Vm of CoP, was greater; GMFCS V, in the seated posture, with crossed MMSS, presented greater area and vm of CoP. The higher the level of gross motor function, the lower the body oscillation values, and the greater difficulty to perform the proposed postures. Conclusion: The semistatic balance seems to be related to the size of contact area and body sway probably due to influence of spasticity and postural changes, requiring further investigation. |
