Prevalência de transtorno mental comum em pacientes internados num hospital universitário

OBJECTIVE: Estimate the prevalence of common mental disorder (CMD) and its associated factors in patients admitted to the University Hospital (UH), of the Universidade Federal de Sergipe. METHODS: Cross-sectional, descriptive and analytical study, with 87 patients admitted in UH, through two instruments: structured questionnaire developed by the authors and the Self-Report Questionnaire (SRQ-20) to TMC research. Data analysis using descriptive statistics, bivariate analysis and multivariate logistic regression analysis and calculation of the odds ratio (OR). RESULTS: TMC prevalence was 44.8% (95%), but in only 3.4% of patients was request liaison psychiatric. In the adjusted model the variables associated with the TMC were using psycopharms with 9.32 times more likely, negative impact of disease on patient's life, with 10 times more likely and the history of previous admissions, with 3.2 times more likely. CONCLUSION: The frequency of referral was very low, which contrasts with the high prevalence of CMD indicating underreporting, consecutively a difficulty in treatment, thereby increasing patient morbidity, increased hospital stay, higher personal costs and higher costs for public health.
