Photography is an indispensable item in the daily life of the Dental Surgeon, in any specialty, for planning, recording of cases and procedures performed, both for scientific and even commercial purposes, as well as for the purposes of legal support for situations that may occur. At the same time, it is necessary for the professional to be prepared to deal with photographic techniques and technologies. Having good equipment is not enough for this, it is necessary that, coupled with the possession of good equipment, the professional knows how to obtain good quality images. Objective: To demonstrate the importance, through a systematic review, of the uses of digital photography in Dentistry, together with the proposal to prepare a guide on digital photography for undergraduate students using smartphones and professional cameras. Materials and Methods: With the following question “What are the techniques and technologies needed for clinical/theoretical learning in dental digital photography?” A systematic survey was carried out with the aim of providing this answer in order to develop a guide for undergraduate students. The databases used for survey scientific articles were: PubMed (All Databases, Mesh), Google academic, Scielo, Scopus and LILACS. The research strategy adopted was PICOS. Thus, the manuscripts found using the keywords had their titles read and were included or excluded according to the criteria. Results: The search strategy used resulted in 1111 manuscripts that could be relevant to the research. After reading the titles, abstract and articles in full, 20 manuscripts were selected for the work. Conclusion: With the elaboration of the systematic review, it was possible to develop a guide on digital photography for undergraduate students. In this way, we seek to contribute to the best execution of photos and case records at an outpatient level in the practical activities of undergraduates.
