Introduction: Temporomandibular dysfunction (TMD) is a functional alteration of the temporomandibular joint (TMJ), being a pathology of multifactorial etiology and diverse symptomatology, susceptible to change in breathing, swallowing, palate, speech and chewing. It can be differentiated into three major groups: muscle, joint and disk dislocations. When considering emotional factors, one of the most studied in the literature is stress. It can influence TMDs and other painful conditions, acting not only as an etiological factor, but also as an aggravating factor of the clinical picture. Objective: to verify the occurrence of masticatory myalgia in facial musculature in 80 students of the Federal University of Sergipe, campus Lagarto. Methodology: This study involves a convenience sample, where students of both genre, with ages between 18 and 55 years old. The "Diagnostic Criteria for the Research of Temporomandibular Disorders" (RDC / TMD), which consists of clinical investigation and classification as to the degree of pathology, was used for data collection. Results: From the sample collected, 35% of the students presented pain on the face, 6.2% with right side pain, 5% on the left side and 23.75% on both sides of the face. Conclusion: According to the research, the presence of muscular and joint pain was observed, with a muscular predominance in masseter muscle, affirming the connection of stress with muscular TMD.
