Resumo: Worldwide sepsis has proven to be a public health problem because, in addition to bringing aggravating clinical consequences for patients, it also has very high costs for public coffers. Nowadays, sepsis markers have been the target of several studies, among them, one of the most reliable is lactate, its measurement has been an important tool in the early detection of sepsis and, consequently, allows a timely therapeutic approach and a better prognosis for patients. The present study aimed to analyze the relationship between blood lactate measurement and the prognosis of patients with sepsis in a private hospital in Aracaju-SE. Data were collected through electronic medical records of patients with sepsis or septic shock who underwent the institution's protocol for the treatment of the above conditions. The data analyzed were non parametric, with dependent samples and their analysis was performed through routine Excel procedures, and the graphs were plotted by the OriginPro 8 program. Differences between the variables will be evaluated by Fishe test and Chi-square. Our results showed that the initial hyperlactatemia associated with a smaller reduction in 6 hours is closely related to worse outcomes of the septic patient
