Análise comparativa da classificação de prioridade na triagem de pacientes candidatos à vaga de unidade de terapia intensiva no Hospital Universitário de Lagarto

Introduction: Intensive Care Units emerged in 1953 in Denmark, with the aim of providing advanced life support. Admissions to these units were regulated, in Brazil, in 2016 through FCM Resolution 2156/16. General objective: To evaluate suitability of patient admission to the Intensive Care Unit of Lagarto’s Universitary Hospital according to priority stratification. Methods: this is an observational cross-sectional study carried out at the HUL ICU, with datam collected from the medical records of patients admitted to this unit between September 2022 and March 2023. 109 patients were included and their data were processed in Microsoft Excel®, Microsoft Access® and PCA. Results: More men (54.13%) were admitted, especially those over 60 years old (66.98%). The main admission diagnosis was sepsis (52.29%) and the most frequent comorbidity was heart failure (58.71%). Regarding the classification of priorities, of the 109 admitted, 39.45% were priority 1, 15.6% priority 2, 17.43% priority 3, 2.75% priority 4 and 24.77% priority 5. The death rate was 53.21%. Discussion: The epidemiological and clinical profile of the admitted patients was consistent with the national literature regarding gender, age group, admission diagnosis and presented comorbidities. However, there was a high prevalence of admitting patients categorized as priority 5, which can lead to higher hospitalization costs and increase the overall death rate of the unit. Conclusion: Therefore, it is necessary to evaluate the current scenario in order to implement changes in the request for ICU vacancies, based on the priority classification established by the FCM. In this way, resources can be reallocated according to the need and prioritization of patients.
