Análise da eficácia de novo dispositivo placebo de acupuntura em indivíduos saudáveis: um estudo aleatório

Some studies have used placebo acupuncture as a masking method to compare the effectiveness of acupuncture's therapeutic effect. The present study aimed to evaluate and compare two placebo acupuncture methods as masking in healthy subjects. Methods: 125 healthy individuals were included, who were randomly divided into five groups, three using the ST36 point (anterior tibial), ST36 Insertion and Withdrawal group, Real ST36 acupuncture group, Yung Sham device group ST36 and two the LI4 point ( hand), LI4 Insertion and Withdrawal group and Yung Sham LI4 device group for puncture. Real acupuncture was applied in one group and two placebo acupuncture methods in the other four groups. The algometer was used to measure the pressure pain threshold in individuals before and after acupuncture treatment. Questionnaires were asked about the discomfort felt during treatment and whether the subject believed whether he had received real acupuncture or placebo. Results: The individuals who underwent the real device at point ST36 had a higher belief that they had actually received the treatment. When comparing the Yung Sham device at point LI4 to the ST36 Insert and Withdrawal group, the Yung Sham group had a higher masking rate than the other group. The Yung Sham ST36 and LI4 Insertion and Withdrawal group did not present statistical difference to confirm their masking. Conclusion: The Yung Sham device showed more effectiveness in masking the research subjects who were scored in points LI4 and ST36. Thus the device has a certain advantage over other placebo methods for use in future studies.
