Resumo: A obra de Jean-Pierre Vernant constitui-se um instrumento valioso para os estudos sobre a Antigüidade Clássica. Um dos principais helenistas da contemporaneidade, contribuiu decisivamente para a reflexão da natureza do pensamento mítico e da emergência da racionalidade grega antiga. Neste artigo abordamos traços de sua trajetória acadêmica e intelectual, discutindo elementos teóricos e metodológicos que marcam sua obra. _________________________________________________________________________________________ ABSTRACT: The works of Jean-pierre Vernant constitute an valuable instrument for the studies about classical antiquity. One of the main Hellenists of our days, he has contributed decisively for the reflection about the mythic thought and the emergence of ancient Greek rationality. In this paper we will deal with some aspects of his academic and intellectual trajectory, discussing theoric and methodologic elements which mark his work.
