Perfil clínico de pacientes com anemia internados na unidade de clínica médica I do hospital universitário de Sergipe

Anemia is characterized by a decrease in red blood cells, evidenced in the laboratory by a reduction in hemoglobin levels. This disease affects a quarter of the world's population, predominantly in children and women. It is a global public health problem. In the context of hospitalized patients, it can be diagnosed in one third of the total hospitalized and studies show that it is associated with consequent conditions that worsen the prognosis of this patient. The paper’s aim was to describe the sociodemographic profile, type and severity of anemia, existing comorbidities, bleeding occurrence and the need for transfusion of patients with anemia admitted to the Medical Clinic nursery of the Sergipe University Hospital., as well as correlate these data. All medical records of patients hospitalized from February to April 2019 were selected for the study. The final sample consisted of 52 patients. The prevalence of anemia was 63.5%, of which 66% were women; 66.7% were from the countryside and the average age was 51.5 years. The prevalent type of anemia was normocytic (63.5%), with a predominance of mild and moderate severity (45.4% and 33.3%, respectively). The comorbidities most associated with anemic patients were related to the cardiovascular system. Of the 33 patients with anemia, only 2 had a transfusion during hospital stay and 2 had had previous pathological bleeding.
