Resumo: | The increasing use of blood as an important therapeutic resource requires progressive increase in the number of blood donors fit. Among the reasons for inability of donors, are of positive serology. This population of donors with positive serology somehow represents our general population and know it not only gives us an idea of the epidemiological profile of the population and provides guidance to the specific characteristics of each group of infected alone. The aim of this study was to determine the prevalence of testing reagents in general in recent years and each positive test among all donors with serology and characterize these populations. This is an observational, retrospective, in a blood center of a public character. Were included blood donors with positive serology, whose donation occurred between June 2001 and December 2011. The sample consisted of 20,558 donors, with a mean age of 40.3 ± 10.8 years. Among the serological reagents prevailed markers for hepatitis B (67.2%), followed by those for syphilis (24.2%) and HIV (16.8%). Despite prevention programs instituted in recent years in Brazil for viral infections, there was no reduction in the prevalence of serological test results over the years. These data demonstrate the importance of using serological tests increasingly sensitive and specific blood banks. For this group to be composed of individuals clinically asymptomatic seropositives becomes important to know the profile of this population thus contributing to the planning of actions that ensure the safety of patients who receive transfusions |

For this group to be composed of individuals clinically asymptomatic seropositives becomes important to know the profile of this population thus contributing to the planning of actions that ensure the safety of patients who receive transfusionsA crescente utilização do sangue como importante recurso terapêutico exige progressivo aumento do número de doadores de sangue aptos.
