Resumo: This study aimed to analyze the difficulty of the search for Sustainable Development in capitalist society. It was intended, with Therefore, tracing the history of sustainable development, highlighting their pillars, identify the main features of society capitalist and emphasize the main difficulty of the search for more balanced development, taking into consideration the environment and social aspects at the time of insertion of tourism as activity that fosters this development. Some of these topics were addressed in this study depended on extensive analysis literature related to themes, as well as their assessment of the data found. Therefore, various environmental problems were triggered by human action that makes modern society seek ways to more balanced economic growth, which generates change in habits by spreading awareness and environmental education.

Pretendeu-se com isso, traçar um histórico do desenvolvimento sustentável, destacar quais são os seus pilares básicos, identificar as principais características da sociedade capitalista e destacar qual a principal dificuldade da busca por um desenvolvimento mais equilibrado e que leve em consideração o meio ambiente e aos aspectos sociais, no momento da inserção do turismo enquanto atividade que fomenta esse desenvolvimento. Alguns destes que foram abordados nesta investigação dependeram de uma ampla análise bibliográfica relacionada à temática, bem como da respectiva avaliação dos dados encontrados.
