This paper analyzes the newspaper Recopilador Sergipano, the first newspaper published in Sergipe, addressing it through its materiality. Studies of this nature adopt references from different areas of knowledge to support the results, such as McLuhan, Chartier and De Luca, who approach information through journals. In order to work with this object, it was necessary to consider beyond the text support its historical context, focusing on the social interferences of the discourse and consequent practice of reading. Using the exploratory research, it was possible to investigate the mechanisms that present it as a relevant source of information, thus demonstrating another aspect with regard to the interdisciplinarity of Information Science. Such research also indicates a tendency to treat the document through its forms, detaching itself from the exclusiveness in discussing only the textual content. It was identified through the study that the printed has great value as a means to portray an important moment experienced by Sergipe society, given the level of relevance of its content.
