Resumo: | Fishing is one of the oldest productive activities of the world over time was done mainly by men. Female participation in this sector was initially indirectly, when the woman fell to the responsibility of processing and marketing of fish, the manufacture and repair of instruments used by man for that activity. The socioeconomic difficulties that pervade the daily lives of communities that survive the exploitation of fishing resources are decisive factors for the inclusion of women directly in fishing. Thus, they occupy the margins of rivers, estuaries and mangroves working directly in the capture of fish and shellfish to meet the survival needs of their families. Thus, female participation in the activity provides an alternative livelihood source of employment and income for many families across the country. But the role of women in this universe occurs with some exceptions in the context of invisibility and devaluation of their work, understood as an extension of domestic chores and not as fishing itself. This reality has stimulated the development of this study, whose main objective was to analyze the importance and responsibilities of women in fishing, a community named Ilha do Beto municipality located Itaporanga D Ajuda / SE. Furthermore, this study also sought to investigate the meanings that attach to the fisherwomen place of life and work, given the close relationship that provides daily fishing. The methodology used in the study is based on a qualitative approach, which aims not only to describe, but to analyze and understand the reality of the people surveyed. The methodological structure still relied on assumptions of oral history and ethnographic research. The development of empirical research in the field occurred with the realization of semi-structured interviews, informal conversations, direct observation, guided tours, photographic recording and georeferencing. This work identified the importance and uniqueness of female engagement in this activity, whose involvement and participation are not limited simply to a "help". The fishers who participated in this study recognize that the work performed in fishing, is as essential as the one held by her husband, contributing significantly to the formation of family income. Moreover, it was found that the Island Beto corresponds not only to the place where you can meet the needs of work and income, but also the place where important personal relationships are established between individuals, and between them and the environment. |

Moreover, it was found that the Island Beto corresponds not only to the place where you can meet the needs of work and income, but also the place where important personal relationships are established between individuals, and between them and the environment.
