Resumo: Shell-mounds are the main evidence of the presence of fisher-gatherer-hunter groups on the southern coast of Brazil. They are basically composed of materials of animal origin. This research focus on Mato Alto I site, located in the municipality of Tubarão, south coast of the state of Santa Catarina. The goal of this research is to presente aresource catchment analysis about the groups that built the Mato Alto I site, based on analyzes of the faunal material, especially malacological and ichthyological material. In the 1990s this site was studied by the Sambaqui e Paisagem project (DEBLASIS et al., 1997). The site has approximately 6 meters of elevation, and has two radiocarbon dates of napproximately 2,245 to 2,535 years BP(FISH et al. 2000). The Mato Alto I construction was based on the collection of mollusks, basically cockles, mussels and oysters. The consumption of vertebrates the group was based on fishing, being catfish, corvina and miraguaia the most important species. The data presented on the site contain information about a sambaqui formation, reinforcing an aspect of its study to the archaeological context of its region.
