OBJECTIVES AND BACKGROUND: To identify and characterize potential drug interactions present in prescriptions contained in the records of Emergency Unit of emergency care (PAU) of the Family Health Clinic Dr. Christtianno O. de Almeida, located in the city of Areia Branca, Sergipe. Since Interactions (IM) are potentially remediable sources of errors in care and a risk for patients. METHODS: This was an cross-sectional, observational, randomized, retrospective from August to June 2016. The approval of the Ethics Committee is in progress. In the survey were collected randomly 60 medical records containing prescriptions from June to August 2016 the Emergency Unit (APU) In The city of Areia Branca - Sergipe, requiring the completion of a previously established collection form. The collected data were analyzed by Micromedex®Drug Interactions program, it characterized the drug interactions by severity and supporting documentation. RESULTS: Of the 60 records analyzed, 52 showed no interaction, emphasizing was found that due to the characteristic of the service, a percentage of 87.32% of the 52 in which there were no interactions were composed of repetitive prescriptions. Thus only 8 records showed potential interactions, the most involved drugs the acetylsalicylic acid, Captopril and Furosamide. The most common interactions were between acetylsalicylic acid and Captopril; Captopril and furosemide and between acetylsalicylic acid and furosemide. According to severity, 2 classified as higher and 12 as moderate. CONCLUSION: This study confirms what many authors have shown that the greater number of larger drugs the chances of interaction occur. Also points out that even in polypharmacy low number of drugs per person interactions occur requiring greater attention and knowledge of the health professionals involved.
