RESUMO: Este trabalho se propõe a estabelecer um estudo sobre o conto A hora e a vez de Augusto Matraga, buscando discutir como Guimarães Rosa, ao recriar a relação do brasileiro com o catolicismo popular, reinventa a relação filosófica do homem com a religião. Para tanto, observa-se o desenvolvimento existencial de Nhô Augusto, de sua condição de homem violento e impetuoso, para uma nova situação de Augusto Matraga, de personalidade religiosa e resignada. Assim, este artigo detém-se em analisar como o protagonista gradativamente vai se desvinculando de códigos de honra nordestinos para incorporar uma postura filosófica universal sobre a relação entre a vida e a morte na trajetória humana. A base da reflexão deste artigo é a crença popular de que o momento da morte pode ser “a hora e a vez” da redenção de um homem, sendo abordada como o clímax da narração e de renovação da personagem. Pretende-se, portanto, verificar a trajetória de transformação existencial do protagonista, desde a circunstância de pré-morte até sua consolidação, para se compreender como a prosa de Guimarães Rosa transita de uma discussão local para uma global, quando aborda medos e anseios humanos. Reflexão filosófica.        ABSTRACT: This study aims to establish a study about the short story "The time and the turn of Augusto Matraga" discussion how Guimarães Rosa, recreating the brazilian perspective of popular Catholicism, reinvents the philosophical relationship between man and religiont is studied the existential development of Nho Augusto, his status as violent and impetuous man, to a new situation of religious and resigned personality as Augusto Matraga. Thus, this article focuses on analyzing how the protagonist will gradually disengaging from Northeastern honor codes to incorporate a universal philosophical stance on the relationship between life and death in human history. The foundation of this article is the popular belief that the time of death may be "the time and the turn" of redemption for a man, being approached as the climax of the story and renewal of the character. It is intended, therefore, to verify the existential transformation trajectory of the protagonist from the fact of his pre-death until his consolidation to understand how the prose of Guimaraes Rosa transitions from a local discussion to a global one, when approaching human fears and yearnings.
