RESUMO: Compreendendo que a identidade não é um monumento sólido ou algo inato (HALL, 2006), é importante apontar que esta é formada a partir de diversas interseções como gênero, sexualidade, classe e raça. Privilegiando raça e identidade como foco de discussões, o presente trabalho investiga como Passing de Nella Larsen oferece um lócus frutífero para evidenciar as relações intersticiais entre os dois termos. Publicado em 1929, Passing narra a história de duas mulheres negras que conseguem se “passar” por brancas para conseguir acesso ao mundo de privilégios negado à população negra. Entretanto, o que seria apenas uma questão racial se torna muito mais abrangente ao se explorar os significados do próprio termo "passing" no romance, permitindo exemplificar a identidade como algo múltiplo e variado. Raça.   ABSTRACT: Understanding that identities are not a solid monument or something innate (HALL, 2006), it is important to point out that they are formed from several intersections such as gender, sexuality, class and race. Privileging race and identity as the focus of our discussion, this paper investigates how Nella Larsen's novel Passing offers a locus to illustrate the interstitial connections between both terms. Published in 1929, Passing tells the story of two black women who manage to "pass" as white so as to have access to the privileges previously denied to black people. However, what would perhaps be solely a question of race becomes much enlarged when all the underlying meanings of the term "passing" come into light in the novel, making room for the study of identities as something multiple and varied.
