Resumo: The act of teaching is at risk. It is necessary to protect it, nurture it and clear its way. Never before has it been so necessary. That is why such an essay is proposed. Through the dialectical method, with a vast tradition in humanistic thinking, the following exposition aims to shape a critical inquiry - through literature review, methodological criticism and notes obtained via participatory-action research carried out throughout the Portuguese territory (2017 -2020) – on the form and meaning of the act of teaching, in the classroom, as the indivisible and most basic elemental unit of work in education at all levels, modalities and formats actually existent.

Hay que protegerlo, nutrirlo y abrir paso. Nunca antes había sido tan necesario. Ese es precisamente el propósito de tal ensayo. Quizás la forma más inmediata de proteger el acto docente es practicarlo. En este sentido, vale la pena iniciar la conversación con algunas preguntas sencillas y frontales. ¿Qué es una clase magistral? ¿Qué hacen los profesores y los alumnos dentro de un aula? ¿Qué caracteriza el proceso de enseñanza y aprendizaje? ¿Cuál es la importancia del acto de habla dirigido y la escucha atenta en la educación en general? ¿Cuál es el lugar de las Humanidades en la Universidad? Esta pieza parte del trabajo vivo del profesor de historia del arte canadiense François-Marc Gagnon (in memorian) y, a través de él, de generaciones enteras de académicos que dieron sentido y forma a la educación universitaria tal como la conocemos, desde la historia moderna y contemporánea hasta nuestros días. Si nuestro punto de partida es la Universidad y las Humanidades, nuestra hipótesis rectora ya desafía la universalidad misma de la humanidad en su conjunto.O ato de ensinar encontra-se em situação de risco. É preciso protegê-lo, acarinhá-lo e abrir caminho. Nunca antes foi tão necessário. A isso se propõe tal ensaio.
