This work presents a discussion on social protection for families in the context of crises, reflecting on the development of social protection policies within capitalism and the challenges that these policies face in times of crisis, fiscal adjustment,and the advance of neoliberal trends. The analysis is centered on the reality experienced by Brazilian families, considering the context of the Covid-19 pandemic. Therefore, the provision and consolidation of social protections for families are understood as responsibilities of the State, going beyond constitutional legality and encompassing a broader concept ofsocial security. The methodology used consisted of a literature review, as well as reflections and discussions accumulated throughout the academic research and extension process linked to the Study and Research Group on Social Protection and Families (GEPPSFAM) at Universidade Federal do Tocantins (UFT).
