Resumo: | This article discusses the convergence between authoritarianism and neoliberalism in the Indian context, where the ruling BJP party has advanced an aggressive Hindu nationalist (Hindutva) agenda since 2014. Initially, the colonization of the public sphere by this religious nationalism is analyzed. The acceleration of this process since the beginning of Narendra Modi's second term in office in 2019 is then addressed. The third section discusses the class bases of Hindutva politics. It is suggested that the acceleration of this agenda poses a dilemma for the ruling class, since the radicalization inherent in the dynamics of Hindu nationalism threatens the social stability and the economy of the country. Committed to this politics on the basis of class interests, big capital has no alternative project at the moment, and risks becoming a prisoner of the politics it helped to set in motion. |

Modi´s hindu nationalism: neoliberalismo and authoritarianism in IndiaO nacionalismo hindu de Modi: autoritarismo e neoliberalismo na ÍndiaThis article discusses the convergence between authoritarianism and neoliberalism in the Indian context, where the ruling BJP party has advanced an aggressive Hindu nationalist (Hindutva) agenda since 2014. Committed to this politics on the basis of class interests, big capital has no alternative project at the moment, and risks becoming a prisoner of the politics it helped to set in motion.O objetivo deste texto é discutir a convergência entre autoritarismo e neoliberalismo no contexto indiano, onde o partido no poder desde 2014 avança numa agressiva agenda nacionalista hindu (Hindutva).
