Ethics, Social Work and “Social Responsibility”: the Case of the Elderly

Resumo: This text analyzes the relationship of ethics with Social Work considering the principle of social responsibility in intervention with the elderly. It analyzes this principle using concepts from various authors who place it in different positions, and examines a case of professional intervention with an elderly person. The reflection on this case considers two dimensions of analysis (one more normative and another more hypothetical and prospective). Finally, it debates the technical decisions and their effects on elderly people and on theprofession of Social Work.

Problematiza esse princípio segundo vários autores, que o colocam em posições distintas e reporta-se a um caso como exemplo de uma intervenção profissional com uma pessoa idosa. A reflexão sobre o caso leva em conta essas duas dimensões de análise (uma mais normativa e outra mais hipotética e prospectiva).
