The great frontier: Amazon and the formation of the global agrarian extractive system

This article aims to situate the Amazon in the historical process of formation of the agroextractive frontier, from the dynamics of appropriation of the territory, extraction of resources and exploitation of labor, which begins in the colonial period shaping the development of capitalism in Brazil. The analysis was carried out with three main axes: the formation of the agroextractive frontier and the insertion of the Amazon in this historical process; the extractive nature of the neoliberal economy, based on the concept of accumulation by spoliation; the understanding of the underdevelopment of the Amazon, from the rupture of the ecological, social and productive systems caused by the successive extractive cycles that marked the insertion of the region in the global economy. It is observed that such processes paved the way for the widespread appropriation of resources and spoliation of Amazonian communities, meeting the demands for the accumulation of extractive capital, in a context of deepening of neoliberalism.
