Resumo: This work, based on a genre cut, seeks to investigate the transformation of the beach, in the city of Rio de Janeiro, between the 1920s and 1940s, into a space for consumption and leisure. More precisely, the research problem consists in analyzing if, in fact, the modernity lived by the seaside by the Carioca woman kept her oblivious to the impositions of patriarchy. For this, the research adopts as an investigation technique the documental research in periodicals and, above all, in illustrated magazines, archived in the Digital Newspaper Library of the National Library Foundation, and the bibliographic survey.

Más precisamente, el problema de investigación consiste en analizar si, en efecto, la modernidad que vivió la mujer carioca junto al mar la mantuvo ajena a las imposiciones del patriarcado. Para ello, la investigación adopta como técnica de investigación la búsqueda documental en periódicos y, sobre todo, en revistas ilustradas, archivadas en la Hemeroteca Digital de la Fundación Biblioteca Nacional, y el levantamiento bibliográfico.Este trabalho, com base num recorte de gênero, procura investigar a transformação da praia, na cidade do Rio de Janeiro, entre os anos 1920 e 1940, num espaço de consumo e lazer. Mais precisamente, o problema da pesquisa consiste em analisar se, de fato, a modernidade vivida à beira-mar pela mulher carioca a mantinha alheia às imposições do patriarcalismo.
