Here we are! Testimony and reconstruction of the history of the children of disapiared stolen during the last Argentine military dictatorship

This article presents a study of children of the disappeared stolen during the last Argentine military dictatorship, who recovered their biographies during adolescence or as adults. Some of them told their experiences through a series of testimonies recorded in a documentary. By listening to these testimonies I present an examination, based on psychoanalytic theory and experience, of the significance of the practice of testimony as an agent of reconstruction of a person’s biography; I analyze the role of one’s proper name as an essential feature in the subjective constitution; and I mobilize the psychoanalytical concepts of trauma and strange/sinister (Unheimliche) to think about the effects and marks of the invasion of the real in the lives of those who had to rebuild their origins and their biographies.
