Resumo: According to microeconomics, soybean cultivation takes place mainly in large areas, where, due to gains of scale, efficient use of resources and yield per unit reach the highest level. Based on this, a pervasive knowledge conveys the idea of a logical relationship between soybean and large holdings, thus driving small farmers out of business because of an alleged lack of economic efficiency. However, this argument is unable to explain why these farmers still persist in such an activity for generations. This requires explanations from a theoretical field broader than economic calculus. Having this as a challenge, this article aims to deliver an analysis of how small family farmers still remain in soybean production, taking into account their strategies, a specific rationalities, and processes of trading and externalization. In order to gather empirical data and information, a field research was carried out in Southeast Paraná, where there is a wide productive diversity, public policies are largely enacted and small family farming is a predominant feature.

Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina2017-09-29info:eu-repo/semantics/articleinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersionapplication/pdfhttps://periodicos.ufsc.br/index.php/interthesis/article/view/1807-1384.2017v14n3p12210.5007/1807-1384.2017v14n3p122Interdisciplinary International Journal - INTERthesis; Vol. 14 No. 3 (2017); 122-141Revista Internacional Interdisciplinaria INTERthesis; Vol. 14 Núm. 3 (2017); 122-141Revista Internacional Interdisciplinar INTERthesis; v. 14 n. 3 (2017); 122-1411807-1384reponame:INTERthesisinstname:Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina (UFSC)instacron:UFSCporhttps://periodicos.ufsc.br/index.php/interthesis/article/view/1807-1384.2017v14n3p122/34882Copyright (c) 2017 Revista Internacional Interdisciplinar INTERthesisinfo:eu-repo/semantics/openAccessBazotti, AngelitaPaula, Nilson Maciel deMielitz Netto, Carlos Guilherme Adalberto2024-03-15T08:38:06Zoai:periodicos.ufsc.br:article/48178Revistahttp://www.periodicos.ufsc.br/index.php/interthesis/indexPUBhttps://periodicos.ufsc.br/index.php/interthesis/oaiinterthesis@gmail.com||interthesis@cfh.ufsc.br||cimbalista@uol.com.br1807-13841807-1384opendoar:2024-03-15T08:38:06INTERthesis - Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina (UFSC)false
