Resumo: | Infl uence, in organic cultivation of eggplant, of the doses of nitrogen and soil green cover on the incidence of Corythaica cyathicollis in different periods of the day. Solanum melongena L., eggplant, is a culture that suffers many problems through pests, being a host of diverse species of bacteria, fungi, mites and insects. The “chinch bug”, Corythaica cyathicollis (Costa, 1864) (Hemiptera, Tingidae) is known to cause serious damage to the culture. This research was conducted in August of 2005, at the Federal Rural University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRRJ). The aim was to evaluate the effects of different doses of nitrogen (50, 100, 200 and 300kg/ha), different soil coverings (grass and Arachis pintoi), and periods of the day (morning, afternoon, evening) on the population of the insect C. cyathycollis associated with the culture of S. melongena under organic system production. The delineation was in randomized blocks, with 12 treatments and 4 replications. Interaction was not verificated among the studied factors (doses of nitrogen, soil covering and period of the day), but it was observed that the use of soil covering and low doses of nitrogen caused a reduction in the number of insect. The majority of insects were found during the period of the morning (39.2%). |

O inseto conhecido por “percevejo manchador”, Corythaica cyathicollis (Costa, 1864) (Hemiptera, Tingidae) destaca-se por causar sérios prejuízos para a cultura. A pesquisa foi realizada em agosto de 2005, na Universidade Federal Rural do Rio de Janeiro (UFRRJ) e teve por objetivo avaliar os efeitos de diferentes doses de nitrogênio (50, 100, 200 e 300kg/ha), diferentes coberturas do solo (Paspalum batatais e Arachis pintoi), e período do dia (manhã, tarde, noite) na população do inseto C. cyathicollis, associado à cultura de S. melongena em sistema orgânico de produção. O delineamento foi de blocos ao acaso, com 12 tratamentos e 4 repetições.
