Resumo: The agonistc behavior of Phrynops geoffroanus is described. Aggressive interactions occurred mainly during the mating season that lasted from December to mid April. Turtles of both sexes were involved, being the interactions between males the most common. The aggressor pursues and attempts to bite another turtle that tries to escape by swimming and turning its carapace towards the agressive turtle. The interesting fact that the pursued turtle never tried to attack its aggressor suggests the existence of a well defined hierarchy. P. geoffroanus was never seen attacking other vertebrate species.
