Resumo: | Contextualization: Bamboo, a traditional construction material, gained prominence with the publication of the Brazilian standard ABNT NBR 16828 (2020), opening new application possibilities for engineers and architects. Goal: This article aims to explore the feasibility of using bamboo in the construction of a bus stop, using simulations using the finite element method and the construction of a 1:20 scale prototype. The chosen species is Phyllostachys Pubences, connected by sisal rope ties and covered with PVC tiles. Method: It began with tests of characteristic compressive strength parallel to the fibers, an essential parameter in the design of bamboo structures. The initiative is part of the Smart Cities Integrator Project of the School of Engineering at Universidade Presbiteriana Mackenzie, an extracurricular activity that seeks sustainable alternatives for cities, aligned with the UN’s 17 sustainable development goals (SDGs). Results: Analysis of the structural model and prototype indicates that the application of bamboo structures in urban equipment is viable, offering a sustainable alternative and aligned with the principles of the UN SDGs. Conclusions: From the results obtained, it is concluded that the use of bamboo in urban structures, exemplified by the bus stop, is a viable option. This work highlights the importance of seeking sustainable alternatives in urban projects, contributing to achieving global sustainable development objectives. |
