Analysis of the scientific production and measurement scales of the university internationalization performance

Resumo: University internationalization is a multidimensional phenomenon; therefore, we need different quantitative and qualitative measures to measure it. This study develops an analysis of publications on the construct university internationalization performance. The aim is to know and analyze the scientific production and measurement scales of the performance of the internationalization of universities. For this purpose, we performed searches in the SciELO, Scopus, Web of Science databases, and Google Scholar without temporal delimitation. We analyzed seven papers that indicated adherence to the construct and found that the most common instruments to measure the internationalization performance construct of universities are indexes, followed by frameworks. We identify two attempts to build scales using formative indexes – Internationalization Index of Higher Education in Turkey and Community College Internationalization Index. However, we do not identify a consolidated scale for measuring the internationalization performance of universities in the literature of the area.

Este artigo desenvolve análise das publicações sobre o construto ‘desempenho de internacionalização da universidade’. O objetivo é conhecer e analisar a produção cientítica e as escalas de mensuração do desempenho da internacionalização de universidades. Para tanto, foram realizadas buscas nas bases de dados SciELO, Scopus e Web of Science, bem como no Google Acadêmico, sem delimitação temporal. Ao final, foram analisados sete trabalhos que indicavam aderência ao construto. Verificou-se que os intrumentos mais comuns para medir o construto desempenho de internacionalização das universidades são os indexes, seguidos dos frameworks. Foram identificadas duas tentativas de construção de escalas por meio de indexes formativos – Internationalization Index of Higher Education in Turkey e Community College Internationalization Index.
