The fight against corruption and the strength of police chief in Sergipe: uses and effects in the political game

Resumo: This article aims to analyze how the fight against corruption in Sergipe, manifested mainly by police inquiries, produced significant effects on the state political game and on the reconfiguration of regional leaderships. For this, we demonstrate to what extent the strong institutional investment in anti-corruption operations, which aim to investigate state and municipal politicians, worked as a political window of opportunity that allowed the recomposition of political groupings in Sergipe, leading to a transformation in the recruitment of new leaders. Our main concern is to highlight the impact of these operations, whether by changing the power relations, thus allowing the entry of new leaders, or in professional careers, enabling delegates to politicize the fight against corruption and reconvert their actions into electoral political trumps.

Para isso demonstramos em que medida o forte investimento institucional em operações de combate a corrupção, as quais visam investigar políticos estaduais e municipais, funcionaram como uma janela de oportunidade política que permitiu a recomposição dos agrupamentos políticos em Sergipe conduzindo a uma transformação no recrutamento de novas lideranças.
