A brief history of Brazilian Nuclear Politics

Resumo: The preliminary researches in the nuclear area in Brazil were developed during the 30 s. However, only from 1945, with the historical atomic explosion in Hiroshima, the Brazilian government showed some interest on this subject. In this way, during the next 54 years, the Brazilian government created several political and technical programs to develop and improve the national nuclear technology. The most important facts, from Hiroshima to Angra II, and some current perspectives in the nuclear energy area, are described in this article.

Entretanto, somente a partir de 1945, com a explosão da bomba atômica em Hiroshima, o governo brasileiro passa a demonstrar interesse em tal setor. Desde então, em meio a controvérsias quanto ao uso da energia nuclear para fins bélicos, a busca sistemática pelo domínio da tecnologia nuclear, direcionada a uma hegemonia brasileira na América Latina, marcaram os 54 anos seguintes da história da política nuclear brasileira.
