Resumo: Since the most remote times, stars have constituted both a refuge and a reference for human beings. But it is only in the last century, since the development of Astrophysics, that scientists came to understand what makes the stars shine, solving at the same time the mystery of the origin of the chemical species in the Universe. We now know that stars are far more important to us that what could be imagined by ancient civilizations.

Foi, porém, somente neste último século, a partir do desenvolvimento da Astro-física, que os cientistas passaram a compreender o que faz as estrelas brilharem, resolvendo ao mesmo tempo o mistério da origem dos espécimes químicos no Universo. Nós agora sabemos que as estrelas são muito mais importantes para nós do que poderiam imaginar as civilizações antigas. Desde os tempos mais remotos, as estrelas constituíram tanto um refúgio quanto uma referência para os seres humanos. Foi, porém, somente neste último século, a partir do desenvolvimento da Astrofísica, que os cientistas passaram a compreender o que faz as estrelas brilharem, resolvendo ao mesmo tempo o mistério da origem dos espécimes químicos no Universo.
