Resumo: The information security of digital media has long been a great concern in the information science area. Subsequently, digital certification has arisen from the necessity and motivation to solve authentication, integrity, confidentiality and legal validity problems in the information systems available on the Internet. Actually, the digital certificate serves as a virtual identity that allows the secure identification of message’s author, ensuring the non-repudiation of the digitally certified information embedded in the digital signature. This article aims to address the way digital certificates are being used in Brazil’s and e-Government program, through a case study carried out on the Regional Electoral Court of Santa Catarina.
