The listed companies on the B3 stock exchange are important to the Brazilian economy. Therefore, it is necessary to systematize the area of Investor Relations, which is a function present in these companies, as well as to identify the main documentary types of the area in order to obtain greater efficiency and effectiveness in document management. Based on this assumption, the objective of this study was to systematize the record production of the area (function) of publicly held traded companies on the B3 stock exchange, based on the study of the functions, IR function, and its subfunctions and activities, and to identify the documentary typology of the area. The methodology is characterized as bibliographic research and documentary research with a qualitative, descriptive and exploratory approach. As a result, the identification of roles, assignments, activities and document types contributes to better performance in the IR area and to the archivists working on those documents and their relationships. We conclude that the documentary type consists of a tool that helps the archivist to immediately differentiate the attributions, functions and activities of the producer organ, contributing to the elaboration of essential instruments for a good documentary management, as for example the classification scheme and the records schedule.
